Swan Bay Resort is a beautiful RV park and resort located in Alexandria Bay in the 1000s Islands region of New York. The resort is an ideal destination with lots of activities both at the resort and in the surrounding area. Located directly on the St. Lawrence river, the resort also includes a marina and cottage rentals.
Swan Bay Resort Amenities
Swan Bay Resort has everything campers would expect from a luxury RV park. The full hookup RV campsites are all spacious with concrete pads and paver patios. There is also a picnic table and fire ring at each site. If youprepay at the office, the resort will deliver firewood directly your campsite.
The highlight of the shared amenities are the resort’s two swimming pools. One of the pools is connected to the Why Knot Tiki Bar where campers can purchase adult beverages and food, and enjoy regular live music performances. The bar is open everyday during the peak season. Other campground amenities include laundry facilities, bathhouse, shuffleboard courts, bocce ball, boat launch, playground and dog park. Boat, bicycle and golf cart rentals are also available on-site.
Reservations for RV camping at Swan Bay Resort can be made using their online reservation system. Prices vary by campsite and season, but campers should be aware that there are additional fees for electricity. A 50% is due at the time of reservation, but according to the resort’s website, the deposit, minus a $25 cancelation fee, will be refunded for reservations canceled at least 14 days in advance of the stay.
For the best sites in the park, book a waterfront campsite. These sites are reserved for motorhomes only as they are pull-in sites and there is not sufficient room to unhitch a trailer’s tow vehicle. Lucky campers who reservice these spots will enjoy uninterrupted views of the St. Lawrence river out of their front window. Travel trailer and fifth wheel owners should select a premium site, which still offer water views though they are not directly on the river.
Things to Do Nearby
Rent a Pontoon Boat
The marina at Swan Bay rents pontoon boats to campers and other travelers. When we visited, we were also allowed to bring our dog Ted on the boat. The boat allows travelers to access quieter areas of the river where you can jump in and swim with no one else around. The marina also rents fishing boats, pedal boats, kayaks and stand up paddle boards.
Visit Boldt Castle
Located on an island in the river, Boldt Castle is a great excursion. Construction began on Boldt Castle in 1900 at the bidding of millionaire hotel magnate George C. Boldt as a tribute to his beloved wife Louise. Boldt Castle was designed as their summer dream home. A castle rivaling those of Europe, built on the St. Lawrence River, in the heart of the 1000 Islands. However it was not to be, Mrs. Boldt passed away suddenly just months before the completion of the castle. Mr. Boldt was inconsolable and immediately stopped all construction on Heart Island, leaving the property vacant for over seventy years. Visitors can access the island on a tour boat or from their pontoon rental.
Party at Pirate Days
Every August, the town of Alexandria Bay hosts Bill Johnston’s Pirate Days. The 10 day event includes performances, dances, children’s parades, crafts, parties and more. Attendees are encouraged to dress up like a pirate and party with the locals. We just happened to visit during this event, and I can confirm it’s a blast.
Swan Bay Resort is an awesome RV resort, but there are so many other destinations to consider. For more RV park reviews and recommendations, see our RV campground review page.
