Why Register a Bus as an RV?

Many insurance agencies will not insure a retired school bus if it is still registered and titled as a commercial use bus.

The first step to register a bus as an RV is to contact your state’s DMV. Each state has different requirements, so you should confirm the exact requirements in your state early in the process.

Common state requirements to register a bus as an RV, include: 1. Removing seats  2. Having a kitchen 3. Having potable water 4. Having a toilet  5. 120 volt power supply

There is one state where the process is easier!  Vermont forgoes all of the conversion requirements except repainting the bus’s exterior and removing any school insignia.
