We recently moved into a 23-foot travel trailer after spending eight years in a fully renovated fifth wheel, complete with fresh paint and new furniture. While we didn’t want to take on another full remodel, we still wanted our new space to feel like home.
With a few thoughtful décor updates, we made our RV cozy and inviting. Here are 10 travel trailer decorating ideas that worked for us!

Wallpaper Accent Walls

Wallpaper is the easiest way to add personality to your RV. In our travel trailer, we applied a floral peel-and-stick wallpaper in three different areas to brighten up the manufacturer’s gray color scheme.
The largest wallpaper installation was on the bottom of our Murphy bed, which is also the wall behind our sofa.
We also installed wallpaper behind our TV and in the cubby beneath our medicine cabinet. These miniature accent walls took minutes to execute but made our RV feel so much more like a home.

We used Spoonflower peel-and-stick wallpaper, which is high quality, but also easy to remove if we ever tire of the design.
Kitchen Backsplash

Our second travel trailer remodel project involved adding a tile backsplash behind our cooktop. The original kitchen had standard neutral wallpaper with no practical or decorative accents, so we decided a backsplash was needed.
We selected StickGoo tiles, which are lightweight peel-and-stick vinyl tiles offering the appearance of real tile without adding extra weight to the RV.
Installation was straightforward, and the strong adhesive has held the tiles securely in place through many bumpy travel days. However, we found the tiles challenging to cut, even with a heavy-duty utility knife, so we added beadboard trim to hide imperfections around the edges.
Throw Pillows

The rest of our travel trailer decorating ideas require no tools or installation. One effortless way to transform your RV from bland to cozy is by incorporating more textiles. We added warmth and character using orange and white throw pillows on our sofa and dinette seating.
When choosing throw pillows for your camper, try mixing various shapes, colors, and fabrics to create a visually appealing and inviting space.
Placemats and Cloth Napkins

Placemats and cloth napkins are another simple way to add color and texture to your RV interior. We keep decorative placemats on our dinette table, which not only protects the surface but also makes the space feel inviting and stylish.
Faux Flowers
We also use faux flowers to keep our dining area feeling fresh and cozy. While we typically prefer real flowers, artificial blooms in a plastic vase are much more practical for RV travel. We secure the vase to the table using museum putty, allowing it to remain safely in place while driving.
Wall Art

Wall art is what truly makes our RV feel like home. Since art is so personal, displaying your favorite painting instantly creates a cozy atmosphere. In our RV, we have a goat painting we purchased during our travels and a poster from our favorite band.
We placed our wall art in super-lightweight plastic frames and attached them to the walls using Velcro. Because these frames are so light, the artwork can remain safely on the walls during travel. If you choose heavier frames, you’ll need to take your art down before hitting the road.
Family Photos
Displaying family photos is an easy and meaningful way to personalize your RV. Just like with our wall art, we use lightweight plastic frames secured with Velcro to safely hang photos during travel. Seeing familiar faces and favorite memories each day helps make our travel trailer truly feel like home.
Rugs

We also added a Ruggable rug to make our travel trailer feel cozier. We love these rugs because they’re lightweight and machine washable—perfect for travel trailer life.
Rugs also help define living spaces and provide extra warmth underfoot, especially on chilly mornings.
Storage Baskets

A practical yet decorative RV essential is storage baskets. We placed a lidded storage basket right beside our RV door to neatly store shoes and dog accessories, keeping them handy but out of sight.
Hand Towels

Decorative hand towels are another useful addition to your RV decor. My aunt made us hang dish towels that double as oven mitts. With their button closures, these towels stay securely in place even while we’re traveling.
These simple but impactful decorating ideas transformed our travel trailer into a comfortable, inviting space that truly feels like home. We hope our experience inspires you to personalize your RV, making it uniquely yours for all your future adventures!
