Florida has the warm weather required for year round camping, but many RV parks and campgrounds in the state cater to retired snowbirds. Although it requires a bit more research to find one, there are plenty of Florida campgrounds that are also great for kids. Below are the 32 best campgrounds in Florida for families.

Best Campgrounds in Orlando, Florida for Families

With the famous Walt Disney World Resort, Orlando is the ultimate family destination. Camping in an RV or tent will add another level of adventure to your Disney vacation. Being a kid-focused destination, Orlando has several of the best campgrounds in Florida for families.

There is no better place to camp with your family that at Walt Disney World itself. Set in an ideal location at the Magic Kingdom Park, Disney’s Fort Wilderness Resort is a 750-acre, peaceful retreat away from the theme park.

John Prince Park Campground

I have personally spent several winters camping at John Prince Park Campground, an amazing county park in Lake Worth, Florida. John Prince Park offers affordable RV campsites located on beautiful Lake Osborne.

The campground does have a large number of retired snowbirds, but all of the lake-front sites are reserved for short term stays. The connected county park offers bicycle paths, walking trails, freshwater fishing, the Lake Woof dog park, kayaking and boating access and multiple playgrounds.

The park also contains the John Prince Golf Learning center which offers affordable lessons both both adults and kids.

Jonathan Dickinson State Park

The campground at Jonathan Dickinson State Park offers over 120 RV and tent campsites with full and partial hookups. Jonathan Dickinson is truly one of the best campgrounds in Florida for families for a number of reasons.

First, it is affordable with campsites costing less than $30 per night. Second, there are tons of activities within the park, including nature trails, horseback riding, bicycle trails, pontoon boat tours, fishing and kayaking.

And finally, the campground is just a 10 minute drive to the beaches, including Jupiter Dog Beach which is one of the few off-leash dog beaches in Florida.

RVs must be under 38 feet long, and reservations can be made up to 11 months in advance. Campsites are just a short walk to the beach.

Bryn Mawr Ocean Resort

Bahia Honda State Park

Bahia Honda State Park offers access to both the Atlantic Ocean and the Gulf of Mexico. The campgrounds offer 48 RV sites with electric and water hookups and a handful of tent-only campsites.

Several of the RV campsites are waterfront with direct access to the Gulf of Mexico. Families camping in this state park can enjoy hiking on the nature trail, trying snorkeling from the shore and kayaking or swimming in the water.

Reservations can be made up to 11 months in advance and this popular state park typically books up that far out.

Curry Hammock State Park

Located in Marathon, Curry Hammock State Park offers another amazing campground with water views. The small 28 site campground has breathtaking views of the Atlantic Ocean.

The campground has spaces for both RVs and tents and all sites have electric and water hookups. Visitors can enjoy kayaking from the beach, a 1.5-mile nature trail and bicycling along the Florida Keys Overseas Heritage Trail.

As with Bahia Honda, the campground at Curry Hammock State Park books up months in advance, so reservations are a must.

Leo’s Campground

If you are looking for a family friendly campground in Key West, book a campsite at Leo’s Campground. Located at mile marker 4.5, the campground is just 1000 feet from the entrance to Key West.

Leo’s has full hookup campsites that can accommodate RVs up to 42 feet long. The waterfront park has plenty of fun areas for families to enjoy, including Tiki huts, a communal firepit, tanning and longue areas and a dog park.

There is also a giant chess set that kids and adults both will love to play.

Sugarloaf Key KOA Holiday

Reopened in 2021 after being destroyed by a hurricane, the newly built Sugarloaf Key KOA Holiday is a great family friendly campground. The best sites in the campground are the waterfront KOA patio sites that have fully furnished paver patios and back-up onto the beach.

Your RV will be parked just steps from the ocean. Other unique campground amenities include paddleboard and kayak rentals, bike rentals, snorkel equipment, a poolside pub and an interactive dog park.

Campers can also book tours on a sailing schooner or catamaran. One thing that is guaranteed is no one will be bored at this KOA.

Sunshine Key Resort and Marina

Located in Big Pine Key, Sunshine Key Resort is literally surrounded by water. Located right on the ocean, the resort offers access to kayaking, boating and swimming.

On land, the resort has tennis, basketball, volleyball and pickleball courts as well as a swimming pool and a small beach area. The large RV park has 400 full hookup campsites.
